In Brazil, the RC led UN team members in a partnership with the Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon to co-develop a programmatic and financial mechanism to promote sustainable development that reached 29 million people in one of the country’s poorest regions.

In South Africa, the RC - working closely with UNDP and other agencies - scaled up engagements with the authorities, the international financial institutions (IFIs) and other partners, ensuring that all communities benefited from the Just Energy Transition Partnership set up to decarbonize the economy and minimize the social costs of the transition.

The Kenya Government SDG Partnership Platform, hosted in the Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO), led to the launch of the world’s first Development Impact Bond for Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health; identified a US 6 billion bankable market opportunity attracting international private sector investments in the primary health sector, scaled up the upgrading of public health clinics, and expanded health insurance coverage. Seven RCOs across Africa are working to replicate and adapt this model to their national contexts.

In Guatemala, the RC enabled the creation of a Fiscal Working Group involving the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, in support of the government’s fiscal reforms. 

In Mozambique, the RC leveraged UN expertise to provide inputs to the negotiations between the Government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an Extended Credit Facility and ensure minimum spending floors for priority sectors and a new multidimensional index to track the human impacts of the programme. 

A UN-IFI Partnership Facility grant deployed a UN-World Bank Liaison Officer in the Integrated Office of the DSRSG in Somalia to enable strategic coordination of around $334 million for shock-responsive safety nets for over 2 million people, an urban internally displaced persons (IDP) response for over 222,000 people, and food security and water responses supporting 27,000 families. 

In Samoa, the RC supported preparations of studies on water quality initiated by UNDP and UNICEF, working with local and international academia and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, that helped develop a set of solutions presented at the UN Water Conference in March 2023.  

In Guyana, the Resident Coordinator's Office supported a UN partnership with a national university for a policy dialogue series on the triple planetary crises of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
