The United Nations in Chile
The United Nations has been present in Chile for more than 70 years and, currently, has a team made up of 18 agencies, funds, and programmes in the country.
Since 1995, the Resident Coordinator system covers all entities of the United Nations system (UNS) that lead development endeavours in each country, regardless of whether, or not, they have an official presence in place. By working closely with national governments and advocating for the mandates and rights defended by the UN, the RC has helped to advance the levels of efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level. Furthermore, the Resident Coordinator system has also facilitated an alignment of these activities with national plans and priorities, which has improved the overall contribution and coordination of the System and other sources of development assistance.
The cooperation between the United Nations system and the host country is defined based on the United Nations Development Assistance Framework in Chile for the period 2019-2022. This joint planning document provides a collective, coherent and integrated response of the Organization to national priorities and needs, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals and the other commitments, goals and objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
We support State institutions in their modernization, through the incorporation of mechanisms of participation, transparency and accountability, promoting probity and public integrity, implementing intersectoral policies, territorially balanced and aligned with the SDGs, so as not to leave anyone behind.
We work so that people, groups and organizations increase their participation in spaces of public involvement, including electoral processes, increasing their levels of incidence and political representation.
Our goal is to achieve the reduction of economic integration gaps, especially those that affect women, youth, the elderly, indigenous peoples, rural population, people with disabilities and migrants.
We promote equality and human rights, especially in the education system for work and other related sectors, in order to respond to the changing needs and innovations in the productive sphere, strengthening their articulation with the private sector.
We ensure that social institutions and actors expand opportunities to exercise the rights and inclusion of the most vulnerable populations, thus reducing inequalities.
As a result of our work with the State, we hope to expand and consolidate access to public services and quality social protection mechanisms that favor the integral development of people, with an emphasis on childhood, the elderly and indigenous peoples.
We hope that, in 2022, the state institutional framework at the national, regional and local levels will have been strengthened, to advance in mitigation and adaptation to climate change, the sustainable management and preservation of natural resources, ecosystems and their biodiversity, as well as the risk management and socio-environmental conflicts.
